How do I design a kitchen layout for a small space?

Accepted Answer

Enter your room measurements and try a straight, L, U, galley or island template. Adjust the units to fit and review overlap, door-swing and walkway warnings. Templates are starting points; verify the layout against your actual room and appliances.

What if I have never designed anything and do not know the terms?

Accepted Answer

Start from a template and use the labelled unit catalogue. Select objects in the plan or list to edit their dimensions, and switch to 3D to see the result. Undo lets you try changes and step back.

Does it run on a phone?

Accepted Answer

You can open the editor and inspect the layout on a phone. Dragging things around is easier on a tablet or laptop. Sharing the plan with a builder on site is the phone's job.

Which appliances are included?

Accepted Answer

Range hood or chimney, cooktop, oven, microwave, refrigerator, sink, water purifier, dishwasher, mixer grinder, kettle and toaster, under-cabinet lighting and a tall pantry — each at its real size. You set out the socket, water or drain point each one needs beside it.

Can I use a photo of the tile or marble I am actually considering?

Yes. The worktop, splashback, cabinets, floor and wall each take a photo of the material you are considering. It becomes a repeating tile across that surface, with a slider for how often it repeats, and it shows in the 3D view that a realistic render starts from. It is a tile, not a slab at true scale: good for seeing the pattern and colour across your kitchen, not for judging where a vein will fall on your worktop. No photo? Pick any colour instead, with the veining or grout colour alongside it.

Can AI design my kitchen from a photo?

Photo-restyle apps can only repaint the kitchen you already have — they cannot move the sink or add a fridge, and the window tends to drift. Setout Kitchen works the other way round: it builds the room from your measurements, so the layout is yours to change. Photographs come in for materials — upload a photo of the slab or tile you are considering and see it across your own kitchen.

What does my builder actually get?

A dimensioned layout sketch and the Setout Sheet: counter height, sink centre-line, where the backsplash starts and stops, and every electrical and plumbing point marked with its height. PNG or PDF, cm or inches. It comes off the same model as the picture, so the two cannot disagree.

Is the realistic render really my kitchen?

It is generated from the 3D view of the model you built, and your measurements and chosen finishes are sent with it, so it should show your room with your cabinets in your colours. It is an image model, though, not a renderer: it can drift on small details. Treat the render as a picture to react to and the dimensioned plan as the record — that is the one your builder works from. Colour on a screen also depends on the screen, so look at the physical material before you buy.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Planning is free for 1 month from sign-up and there is no card to start, but you do need to sign in with Google. Projects are saved to your account, so they open on any device you sign in on. The free plan keeps 1 project and includes 1 realistic render so you can judge the output. The dimensioned PDF, the elevations and the layout checks are free too. You pay only for more rendered images, or to keep editing after 1 month, with a one-off credit pack that keeps projects editable for 12 months. Nothing renews.

What exactly is free?

All the planning, for 1 month from sign-up: the room, every cabinet and appliance, service points, the layout checks, the floor plan, the elevations, the 3D view and the dimensioned PDF your builder works from. That is long enough to plan your own kitchen and see whether the planner suits you; a pack keeps it editable for 12 months while you get quotes and revise. The free plan keeps 1 project and includes 1 realistic render, so you can judge the output before paying for any. After 1 month your projects stay yours to open and download; editing them again takes any credit pack.

Why credits instead of a subscription?

Because you fit a kitchen once. A subscription would keep charging long after the counter was in. A pack is bought once: its credits never expire, one per generated image, and it keeps your projects editable for 12 months from the day you buy it, which covers design, quotes and installation. Buy again later and the 12 months start over from that purchase. Nothing renews on its own.

What happens when editing ends?

Nothing is deleted. Your projects stay open to view, print and download as PDF, SVG or a project file, and any credits you have left still generate realistic images. Changing a layout, finishes or service points, or starting a new project, needs a new pack, which opens another 12 months. Signing in does not extend it. The dashboard and the editor tell you 30 days before a pack's editing ends, and 7 days before free editing does.

How many projects can I keep?

The free plan keeps 1, the Starter pack 10, the Kitchen pack 20, and the Studio pack 100. Comparing a few layouts and finishes side by side rarely takes more than six. If you have bought more than one pack, the biggest one bought in the last 12 months sets the number. A duplicate counts as a project and deleting one frees a place. Going over never locks a project: you keep editing the ones you have.

How many credits do I need?

Most people use six to ten images: a couple of angles for each of two or three finish options. The Starter pack's 15 credits cover that, and the Kitchen pack's 40 leave room to try more themes and change your mind. If a generation fails, its credit comes back.

Question 16

What if I run out of credits?

Accepted Answer

A top-up adds 10 credits for $9, for when you are a few images short of finishing. It does exactly that and nothing else: your editing date and your project limit stay where they are, because those come from the pack you bought. If you need more than a handful, buying a pack again costs less per credit and opens another 12 months of editing from that day.

What is the Studio pack for?

People who do this every week: designers, contractors, carpenters, showrooms. 100 client kitchens and 500 credits, bought once — five times the room of the Kitchen pack and enough images for a working year, at around five per project. There is no subscription and no seat pricing.

Card, through our payment provider. Prices are in US dollars and local taxes are added at checkout where they apply.

What if it did not help?

Tell us within seven days and we refund unused credits in full. We do not ask for a reason, though we would like one.

Where are my projects saved?

Accepted Answer

In your account, and in the browser you plan in. You work on the browser copy: every change is kept there at once, and the editor keeps working offline. It is saved to your account after a pause in editing, when you press Save or Ctrl/⌘ S, and as you leave, so the project opens on any device you sign in on and survives clearing your browser data. The header says which: saved, unsaved changes, or only in this browser. Projects made before account saving existed stay only in that browser until you press Save on them. Renders are stored with your account too, and appear in your gallery on any device.

Which devices and browsers work?

Any current browser on a laptop or desktop is the comfortable place to plan. A tablet works well for reviewing and small changes. A phone can open a project and show the plan to a builder on site, but dragging units around is fiddly on a small screen.

Question 22

How do I delete my account and data?

Accepted Answer

Write to hello@setoutkitchen.com from the address you signed in with. Your account, credit ledger, saved projects and renders are deleted. Copies in a browser stay until you delete them from the Projects page or clear your browser data. The privacy page lists exactly what is held and for how long.

Question 23

Do you sell materials or take commissions from suppliers?

Accepted Answer

No. The catalogue names are descriptions of a look, not products, and there are no supplier relationships. The only thing for sale is render credits.
